Pigeon and Seagull Control
Birdteq carries out bird control using bird deterrents, bird scarer devices and bird proofing systems.
Our bird netting systems are installed to the highest standard and with the welfare of birds in mind. A correctly fitted bird net should not cause birds harm but very rarely birds such as feral pigeons and gulls can try to land on a net and do get caught. All our bird net installations have a bird welfare sign in prominent areas, this details actions to be taken and our emergency 24 hour free call out service.
Feral pigeons are the most common birds that Birdteq are requested to control with our pigeon deterrent and pigeon proofing systems. Pigeon fouling (guano) is a public health hazard, bird guano can cause a host of diseases when in close proximity to humans and insect pest species such as bed bugs, mites and clothes moths commonly dwell amongst accumulating bird droppings and nests. The acidity of bird guano can erode substrates such as sandstone, not to mention the defacing of buildings and monuments.
Under the terms of the Wildlife And Countryside Act, pigeon control must first be attempted using anti pigeon devices such as a pigeon repeller or pigeon proofing measures. What this Act basically says is that pigeon pest control has to start with pigeon removal through non lethal measures and as our pigeon prevention systems are so successful, lethal methods are rarely required for pidgeon control. Birdteq does carry out pigeon extermination, but only within the guises of the Law.
Of course, the best pigeon repellent is prevention. Old, disused buildings need to be secure with no open or broken windows and new buildings should have bird proofing as a standard requirement.
Herring Gulls and Greater and Lesser Black Backed Gulls are aggressive during breeding season From May to July and their nests have know to block roof drainage outlets, resulting in rain water ingress in buildings.
As with pigeons, gulls are protected under the Wildlife and Countryside Act, so our gull control is carried out mostly using bird deterrents for roofs and gull proofing systems.
Bird eradication of gulls is generally carried by way of population reduction measures such as gull egg, gull nest removal, gull egg oiling or egg replacement with dummy eggs. This is still only lawful when dealing with Herring gulls and Lesser Black Backed gulls, but still only once proofing and deterrent measures have initially been deployed and are deemed to of failed.
At Birdteq we have the expertise to deliver the right solution from our host of seagull deterrent and seagull proofing systems that will control and prevent bird infestations that can lead to the problems associated with bird activity.
BIRDTEQ INSTALLATIONS ARE GUARANTEED. ALL OUR BIRD DETERRENT SYSTEMS AND PROOFING SYSTEMS HAVE A THREE YEAR GUARANTEE. AFTER THIS PERIOD A MAINTENANCE CONTRACT CAN BE SET UP WHICH WOULD INCLUDE CALL OUTS FOR DAMAGE REPAIRS.
